The World's Smallest and Lightest Body
With an adoption of new mount, the DMC-GF3 achieves dramatic downsizing compared with the predecessor DMC-GF2. It breaks the record of being the world's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera* again. Even though pursuing the ultimate compactness, Panasonic did not compromise in the equipment of camera such as built-in flash.
Micro Four Thirds System Standard
By adopting the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the DMC-GF3 features mirrorless structure that eliminates the mirror box and optical viewfinder unit. This carefully preserves the image quality while maintaining a compact profile, and provides you with even higher levels of performance in a digital interchangeable lens system camera.
iA (Intelligent Auto) Plus
If you've resisted buying a digital SLR because you think it's hard to use, your wait is over. The DMC-GF3 features the same iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode as the LUMIX compact models. The iA Mode supports easy shooting with automatic optimization according to the scenes. In addition, the new iA Plus Mode enables you to adjust defocusing area, exposure compensation and white balance by just moving the slider with your finger.
Useful, Convenient Shooting-Assist Functions
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) that's built into Micro Four Thirds lenses detects and compensates for blurring caused by hand-shake. So, you can get sharp, clear shots every time you shoot.
The Face Recognition function remembers faces that have been registered in the camera and provides the faces with optimal focus and exposure.
The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal)*4.
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically and continuously tracks it and keeps it in focus and proper exposure.
The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions.
The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects any of the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait, Night Scenery or Sunset Mode accordingly.
Once the subject is touched, the camera judges the optimal settings and automatically switches to the appropriate shooting mode.
The Intelligent D-range Control offers natural looking by optimizing the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully including the blue color of the sky.Venus Engine FHD

The 4/3-type 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor offers the best of both worlds - the superior image quality of a CCD sensor, and the lower power consumption of a CMOS sensor. This sensor is advantageous for photo and video recording with its high S/N, thanks to an advanced circuit structure that is unaffected by the noise generated in each of the circuits.The Venus Engine FHD enhances its performance with an adoption of new noise reduction technology for even higher quality of image. This advanced noise reduction system realized S/N improvement by approx. 3dB at ISO3200 / ISO6400 setting respectively and improved the color reproduction in high sensitivity recording. The result is a picture with stunning clarity if shot in low-lit situations. Furthermore, optimization of the parameter contributes to the increase of resolution.
Intelligent D-range Control
The Intelligent D-range Control offers even more natural looking by optimizing the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully including the blue color of the sky. An automatic backlight compensation function is activated whenever the camera detects the subject in backlight.
Intelligent Resolution Technology
With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas – outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas – are automatically detected. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and video recording. The DMC-GF3 also features the “EXTENDED” option for more natural looking to be printed in large size.
1920 x 1080 Full HD Video in AVCHD Format
There are always two options to record spur-of-the-moment scenes – high-quality photos or videos. You can simply choose the one that saves precious memories most beautifully with the DMC-GF3. The DMC-GF3 can record high-resolution full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos despite its small body. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG.
The World's Fastest Level of Light Speed AF
The DMC-GF3 features the world's fastest level of Light Speed AF featuring approx. 0.1 second which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 fps to 120 fps. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end digital SLRs with phase-difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in the DMC-GF3. Combined with the touch AF control, setting and focusing at the subject is incredibly easy and quick, never missing the spur-of-the-moment.
Full-area Focusing with Touch AF
The DMC-GF3 incorporates full-area focusing which makes it possible to set focus on any point in the field of view. Frame composition is free and intuitive combining the touch-screen operation.
Creative ControlThe popular My Color Mode equipped in the LUMIX G Micro System is renewed for Creative Control by handpicking the frequently-used color modes. The Creative Control lets you enjoy giving your intention to make the image even more impressive.
Now it is possible to adjust defocusing area and exposure compensation in the Creative Control Mode.
