This carefully preserves the image quality while maintaining a compact profile, and provides you with even higher levels of performance in a digital interchangeable lens system camera.
16.0 Megapixel Live MOS Sensor
The newly developed 16.0-megapixel Live MOS sensor for the DMC-G3 plays a big role in high quality image rendering.With the new circuit which reads out signals with minimum noise, the level of noise is significantly suppressed by more than 66%. Notably in shooting at high ISO setting, S/N (Signal-to-Noise) value is improved by approx. 200% compared with the conventional 12.1-megapixel sensor. The sensor performance improves by 6db at ISO3200 and max. 9db at ISO6400, resulting in the dramatically flawless image without noise.

For the image processor, the Venus Engine FHD is incorporated and features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities in both photo and video recording.

The DMC-G3 features the world's fastest level of Light Speed AF featuring approx. 0.1 second which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 fps to 120 fps. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end digital SLRs with phase-difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in the DMC-G3. Shutter Speed Effect PreviewBoth the LVF (Live View Finder) and the LCD give you a Full-time Live View of what you're shooting with a field of view of approx. 100%. The viewing method can be selected to match your shooting conditions and composition, which makes them ideal for active shooting. You can confirm the depth of field and shutter speed effects by pressing the Function button, if you select the Preview mode.
1,440,000-dot Equivalent LVF (Live View Finder)
The DMC-G3’s large, bright 1,440,000-dot equiv. The LVF retains the outstanding viewability of an optical viewfinder and can also display information about camera settings that you can see without taking his or her eyes off the subject. This LVF also features approx. 1.4x / 0.7x* magnification, and approx. 100% field of view as the LCD for superbly accurate framing.
Reducing the color breakup by half in principle, this LVF assures stunning image view for any subject in any scenes. Together with the 60 fps Live View is made possible by the Live MOS sensor, which takes signals directly from the image sensor and sends them continuously to the LCD, in real time. This allows you, when composing a shot, to check the framing accurately from corner to corner.3.0-inch Free-angle LCD with High 460,000-dot Resolution
The DMC-G3 has a 3.0-inch 3:2 460,000-dot free-angle LCD that rotates 180° to the side and tilts 270° up and down, and gives you approx. 100% field of view. This is a highly practical feature for high-angle shots, like when you need to shoot over the heads of people at a parade, and enables accurate, dynamic framing for artistic low-angle shots, like when shooting at nearly ground level. It's extremely convenient when shooting with a tripod too.
The wide viewing angle of the LCD is also handy both for shooting and for viewing the results together with family and friends. And the Intelligent LCD function automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to the shooting conditions. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes approximately 1.4 times brighter than normal.
Extended Battery Life
The energy-saving Venus Engine FHD and the genuine rechargeable lithium-ion battery work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-G3, making it possible to take approx. 270 shots*1 or approx. 250 shots*2 on a single battery charge.
Touch Screen Operation
To elevate its operability even higher, the DMC-G3 adopts touch-control shooting. You can operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch, for a completely new way to shoot.
Plus, in the Custom setting, you can set ON/OFF of each touch control such as touch shutter, touch AF and touch display to make the camera more comfortable to operate for you.

Touch AF / Touch AF in Video Recording
With the DMC-G3, auto focus can be set at any part of the frame by simply touching the subject on the LCD. This lets you frame your shot easily and accurately. The Touch AF can be activated on the DMC-G3 even in video recording. This function quickly focuses on moving subjects, and also enables professional-like rack focusing.
Dust Reduction System
If dust or other foreign matter gets inside the camera when you're changing lenses, it could cling to the image sensor and show up as a spot in your photos. The Dust Reduction System in the DMC-G3 helps eliminate this possibility by placing the Supersonic Wave Filter in front of the Live MOS sensor, between the low-pass filter and shutter. Vibrating vertically around 50,000 times per second, the filter repels dust and other particles effectively.

DMC-G31920 x 1080 Full HD Video in AVCHD FormatThere are always two options to record spur-of-the-moment scenes – high-quality photos or videos. You can simply choose the one that saves precious memories most beautifully with the DMC-G3. Now the DMC-G3 can record high-resolution full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos despite its small body. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG.
