Camera rolling bags are “airport bags for cameras”. They’re extremely popular among professional photographers for managing equipment loads and organizing their camera equipment properly. These bags can safely carry additional equipment like laptops and big DSLR cameras.

The rolling bags first came into fashion with the emergence of globetrotting professional digital photography, and they’ve since become popular for their sheer functionality on the job. The need to be able to access a range of camera accessories like lenses and upload visual data on site means the camera rolling bag is effectively a studio on wheels.

Most importantly of all, the rolling bags are good space managers in any environment. They reduce clutter, prevent disorganization and eliminate that wonderful “Where did I put…?” feeling all camera people know so well.  With a rolling bag, you can get the whole load under control and make sure your gear is safely stowed away when not in use, out of reach of “complications” including people that don’t know how you like your kit organized.

Rolling bags on the market

There are two main makers of rolling bags on the market, Tamrac and Lowepro, both of which are specialist camera container makers. They also make backpacks, lens cases and other useful gear, and their rolling bags are excellent.

Tamrac rolling bags

Tamrac have four rolling bags on the market, including two “carry bag” Cyberpro models and two “suitcase” Speed Roller models. The Cyberpro types include space for a compact laptop and are somewhat smaller than the Speed Rollers, which are designed for carrying practically anything you can think of in camera equipment.

Lowepro rolling bags

The Lowepro range is two models in the Pro Roller range, the x100 and x200, designed to be airline compatible. These are the “suitcase” type of rolling bag, and are all-purpose carriers suitable for a lot of equipment, including laptops.

Buying rolling bags online

If you’re looking for a rolling bag, particularly if you’re traveling a lot, you might want to consider space as a factor. The smaller Tamracs are good for traveling light, the heavier Tamracs and Lowepros are excellent all-in-one carriers for a major shoot, and allow some extra space for other equipment if you need it.

Important: Prices for rolling bags online are a lot better than retail. You can get discounts of up to 20% online, even for the top of the range rolling bags. Check out what’s available, because you’ll be able to buy all your other stuff with the savings.
